Awesomely Sustainable Gift Guide… 2020 Edition

If you’ve read any of our Awesomely Sustainable Gift Guides from previous years, you know that this year is a little different. Well, a lot different. With social distancing guidelines in place, many of us here at Badger are skipping the holiday craft fairs, local businesses, and bookshops we usually explore – relying instead on online shopping to find the gifts we need.

But here’s some good news… Even if you’re shopping online this year, you can still support the same businesses you love visiting in person!! Thanks to awesome certifications like B Corp and Fair Trade Certified, you can seek out gifts that are good for the recipient, good for your community, and good for the planet.

As we begin our holiday shopping, we’ve put together a list of one-of-a-kind gifts for this one-of-a-kind year. If you’re hoping to support some wonderful B Corps, discover the perfect presents for a cozy quarantine, and maybe even stock up on some toilet paper, you’re in luck.

A trip around the world (for the tastebuds).

$21 – $39

Uncommon Goods, Julie Pedersen

It’s been a tough year for travelers. For the international foodie in your life, try gifting this set of gourmet spices from all around the globe! “Start your journey in France with herbs de Provence,” it says, “tour Italy with oregano and crushed red pepper flakes, dash over to Spain with a pinch of smoked paprika, then zip to the Levant with za’atar.” Pair these spices with Badger’s EVOO, and you’ve got yourself a global food tour… right in your kitchen.

P.S. Uncommon Goods is a fellow B Corp that supports independent artists all around the world – almost like the craft fair you might be missing this year! Start poking around for other gifts, too… you might want to explore for hours.

Gooooood coffee.

Dean’s Beans

$19.99

Speaking of morning coffee… This stuff is the best of the best. (That’s why we keep putting it in our Gift Guides.) We love Dean’s Beans here at Badger – not just for their delicious roasts, but also for their solar-powered facility, direct trade with farmers, and commitment to organic.

Can’t decide on a bean to give? Try this gift sampler and your recipient can switch up their dose on the daily.

Pairs best with: Badger’s Chai Rose Lip Balm

Spellbinding reads from a local bookstore.

Bookshop.org

Not ready to hunt for books in person? Thanks to Bookshop, an online marketplace, you can still get lost wandering the virtual shelves! With everything from National Book Awards finalists to antiracist reads to some of the best Native American authors, the site has raised almost $8 million for local bookstores. You can even choose a local store on this map and make sure they get 100% of the profits from your order.

Pairs best with: Badger’s Focus Balm

Some pretty paw-some chocolate.

Rescue Chocolate

Fellow B Corp Rescue Chocolate might have the sweetest mission out there. For every chocolate purchased, 100% (yes, 100%!) of net profits are donated to animal rescue organizations. Plus, how adorable is their packaging? ♥

Get their One of Everything Collection ($40) to try a bunch of flavors at home!

A mat that gives back.

Wanderlust

Know someone who loves their at-home workouts? Gift this all-natural yoga mat from B Corp Wanderlust! The comfiest socks ever.

Bombas

With so much time at home, we’ve all been spending a lot of time in our socks. Might as well make sure they’re the comfiest socks ever. If you haven’t heard of the B Corp Bombas yet, get ready to try the socks that’ll blow your socks off. For every item of clothing you give, one item gets donated to help someone experiencing homelessness. Time to sock—uh, stock—up.

Pairs best with: Badger’s Foot Balm

Toilet paper that gives a crap.

Who Gives a Crap

Because we had to put toilet paper on this list. If you’re going to gift some TP this holiday season, make sure it’s the highest quality TP around. This not-crappy B Corp donates 50% of profits to build toilets and provide proper sanitation for people in need. And their toilet paper is plastic-free, free of inks/dyes/scents, and also just very cool.

Pairs best with: Uh, we’re not sure about this one.

Still looking for ideas?

Remember you can always buy a gift card to a local business or restaurant. Even if their doors are closed for now, you’ll be helping them on their path to reopening. And your recipient will have something to look forward to, even after the holidays are over!

If there’s anything this year has taught us, it’s that being together with loved ones is a gift in itself. So however you’re choosing to shop and celebrate this year, we hope your holiday season is merry and bright, and filled with love and light!

Hi Badgers! Have you considered creating t-shirts (long or short sleeve, or both) with the tattoo balm medicine art of the sailboat & dolphins with “Kindness is my Compass” either on the front or back? I know several people who have no space for the poster but would love to wear a t-shirt such as that. They would make nice gifts!!
