Drumroll, please… it’s time to introduce the latest and greatest products from your friends at Badger! For this post we’ll be covering two new mineral sunscreen options and two new lip balms, which will be available on badgerbalm.com February 6th, and nation-wide this spring. Like all Badger products they are Leaping Bunny Certified cruelty free, and made with lots of love. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s jump right in!
This new mineral sunscreen has already generated quite a buzz on both Instagram and Facebook and with good reason. This is the first mineral sunscreen Badger has offered that doesn’t leave a white cast on the skin.
A little bit of background, in case you’re not familiar with the type of mineral sunscreen Badger makes: we only use non-nano zinc oxide. Non-nano means that the particles of zinc oxide are larger, and because of this our sunscreens tend to leave a white cast on the skin. Think diaper cream, because that is the type of zinc oxide that Badger uses.
We’re always proud to offer a safe and effective mineral sunscreen, but we understand that the white cast can be a bummer. Enter SPF 30 Unscented Sunscreen Cream with Sheer Tint For Face & Body. We’ve added iron oxides to create a sheer mineral tint that should blend with most skin tones. It’s based on our super-popular Unscented SPF 30, and has all of the same characteristics: 100% Certified Natural, 98% Certified Organic, broad spectrum coverage from both UVA and UVB rays, and water resistant for 40 minutes of swimming or sweating.
The second mineral sunscreen offering on this list is for kids of all ages. I say that, because this is one of my favorite scents that Badger has created: Tangerine & Vanilla. It is sweet and uplifting, and makes me think of creamsicles. I am an avid user of our SPF 30 Kids Sunscreen Cream, and cannot wait to add this to my beach bag. But enough about me!
This formula is based on our SPF 35 Sport All Season Face Stick, and it includes the same traits as the other sport sunscreens we offer: 100% Certified Natural, 98% Certified Organic, broad spectrum coverage from both UVA and UVB rays, non-nano zinc oxide, certified biodegradable, and water resistant for 80 minutes of swimming or sweating.
The only major difference between the Kids stick and the original is the essential oil fragrance. That’s why it’s good for moms, dads (and Jentri!) too. The reason we call it a Kids stick is because of the kid-friendly fragrance, and the fact that it’s really fun to put on.
Probably one of the best things about this stick (for us New Englanders, at least) is that this product is great for winter sports, in addition to water sports. The base ingredients of oils, butters, and wax create a barrier on the skin, helping to protect your skin from windburn. The wax content also helps to seal in your skin’s moisture, which is helpful if you’re hitting the slopes or building a snowman. No more chappy cheeks!
As you probably know Badger makes a bunch of different organic lip balms – some are based in organic extra virgin olive oil (“Classic”), and some are based in scrumptious Fair Trade Certified™ cocoa butter. We’re excited to add one to each of these collections – but these lip balms have a little extra magic.
We know what powerful herbal agents tea tree and lemon balm essential oils are, so we’ve been wanting to add them to a lip balm for a while now. So that’s exactly what we did to create these new Herbal Lip Care balms. In addition to these we added a new ingredient to Badger: tamanu oil.
Tamanu oil is really cool! It comes from the kernel of a nut inside the fruit of the Tamanu tree. What’s really fascinating is that when the kernel is first harvested it doesn’t seem to contain any oil. However when it is dried it turns dark brown and sticky – then it’s cold-pressed and the dark green oil is revealed. The reason we’ve added it to these herbal lip balms is because it has a whole host of skin-soothing benefits. It’s loaded with fatty acids including one completely unique to tamanu oil: calophyllic acid. It has been used as a folk remedy by Pacific Islanders for centuries, and is currently being studied by the scientific community.
A pinch of menthol crystals and peppermint round the blend out to give your lips a cooling, tingling, refreshing feeling.
But wait, there’s more!
Believe it or not, we have two more products to release this spring. We’re going to give those some attention in a blog post in about two weeks, so stay tuned! In the meantime be sure to check out our Facebook page where we’ll be giving away a bunch of these products this week!
