Oil Cleansing FAQ: Mix n’ Match

OCM (oil cleansing method) FAQ is our new series focusing on the nuance of cleansing with oil. If you are new to the OCM, please check out our Beginners Guide to the OCM, and Choosing the Right Oil Cleanser. And if you have questions, please post them in the comments section below.

Badger Oil Cleansing Products

One of the most frequent questions we get about the oil cleansing method is whether you have to use all three products within the line to see results. So since this touches upon one of my favorite aspects of Badger’s OCM line, I thought I’d start with what I like to call the Badger mix n’ match.

First, the important stuff…

The biggest thing to remember is that our skin thrives on ritual. The more you practice a regular regimen, the better your results will be.

It’s also important to remember that it can take up to four weeks for your skin to adjust to any new regimen. During this process you could experience breakouts and other unpleasant reactions, like dry skin patches. As much as we wish it would, our skin won’t adjust overnight. So when you make the change to oil cleansers, be patient and give your skin time to settle into your new routine.

The Badger Oil Cleansing Method

Badger Argan Cleansing Oil

Badger cleansing oils, face oils, and beauty balms were created to be both universal and for specific skin types. This means that the core ingredients in all four lines are similar, but the different essential oils (or lack thereof), and concentration of ingredients make them skin type specific.

For example, castor oil (used in the cleansing oils) can be kind of drying. But it is by far one of the best oils for cleansing your skin because it draws dirt and oil out of the pores. And while we use it universally in all our cleansing oils, we vary the amount based on skin type. Unscented, Damascus Rose, and Seabuckthorn – which are meant for sensitive, delicate, and dry skin, respectively – have less castor oil than the Argan formula, which is for all skin types.

All Badger face oils work to support your skin by balancing oil production. And once you achieve balance, your skin will feel clean and moisturized, without being oily.

So when choosing the Badger OCM regimen that works best for your skin, don’t be afraid to try out the different cleansing oils and face oils to discover which is best for you!

Mix n’ Match

This means that it’s easy to mix and match within the Badger oil cleanser line. If you have sensitive skin that’s a little dull, why not try the Unscented Cleansing Oil paired with the Seabuckthorn Face Oil? If you want a deep clean, and want to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, try the Argan Cleansing Oil followed by the Rose Face Oil. And if you want a deep clean but don’t like smelling like a rose afterward, then try the Argan Cleansing Oil and the Unscented Face Oil.

The main thing is that everything in the Badger Face Care line works well together — so you can create a combination as unique as your skin.

Do I have to use beauty balm?

Argan, Seabuckthorn, Damascus Rose, and Unscented Beauty Balms

Of course not! In fact, each one of the products in these lines holds up well on its own. However each offers something unique, and the beauty balm’s role is to deliver intensive nourishment. So you might need it if you live in a cold or dry climate, or use it to soothe the occasional dry patch.

Beauty balms also make for fabulous under-eye treatments. And I love using the Seabuckthorn Beauty Balm as a weekly restorative night mask. These multi-functioning products can really boost your beauty regimen!

The Bottom Line

Go with your gut. If you’re feeling drawn to a particular product, try it! Using a Damascus Rose Cleanser, Seabuckthorn Face Oil, and Argan Beauty Balm might not be matchy-matchy on your bathroom shelf, but that combination might bring out the best in your skin.
