Totes are totally cool. They’re practical, reusable, and when done right, pretty nice to look at. We Badgers are always toting stuff around, so it made perfect sense to commission a durable Badger tote for everyday use.
Luckily, when it came time to source a sustainable bag, we didn’t have to look very far. Enviro-ToteTM in Bedford, New Hampshire was already creating eco-friendly totes that met all of our criteria: certified organic cotton (check), fair labor practices (check), locally made (check).
Keeping it Local. Keeping it Green.
Enviro-Tote is a family owned, women-owned and operated company that’s been creating environmentally friendly tote bags for promotions and special events since 1990.
The company makes three different kinds of bags: unbleached and colored cotton, certified organic cotton, and 100% recycled soda bottles (The Bottle BagTM). Each bag is individually cut, hand-stitched and screen-printed at the Bedford plant.
In true Badger style, our sturdy custom bags are made from 100% ecogrown certified organic cotton. Not only do they look great, they’re also free of nasty toxins and pesticides. Why certified organic cotton? It’s better for the Earth, better for the farmers growing it, and better for you. Organic cotton farming uses less water, non-GMO seeds, and crops aren’t treated with pesticides, insecticides, or herbicides.
A Heartwarming New England Story
Enviro-Tote began operations in Manchester’s historic Millyard with stitching equipment purchased from garment giant Pandora, which was going out of business after providing decades of work to local stitchers. Even better, in addition to recycling Pandora’s stitching machines, Enviro-Tote also hired Pandora stitchers, and most remain with the company today.
The company strives to generate as little waste as possible. Efficient cutting and stitching along with precise printing greatly reduces and often eliminates fabric waste. They also recycle all office paper, cardboard, cans and bottles; going so far as to turn office paper printed on one side into bound note pads (hey – maybe Badger could try that). And of course, they re-use their awesome Enviro-Tote bags when they shop!
While Enviro-Tote has grown from 12 to 40 employees, many of whom have been with the company since the beginning, they have remained true to their roots as a sustainably minded family owned business. One that understands the importance of working well together. This harmony and attention to detail is evident in the quality of their products. You might even say, “The proof is in the bag.”
