Badger is proud to announce that one of our long-term subcontracting partners, Raining Rose of Cedar Rapids, IA, has taken the next step toward measuring what matters by becoming a certified B Corporation! B Corps are for-profit companies certified by the nonprofit entity B Lab to meet rigorous standards of transparency, social outreach, employee engagement and environmental stewardship. Badger has long been a proponent of the philosophy behind B Corps, and we are in the privileged position of being able to help our partners and customers learn more about “using business as a force for good.”
Founded in 1996, Raining Rose was our partner in lip balm production for many years prior to our bringing it in-house. In addition to making other natural body care products in their LEED-certified facility, they are also certified to make USDA organic products. An award-winning company, Raining Rose was named a Blue Zones Worksite in 2014 by the Blue Zones Project®, a community-by-community well-being improvement initiative designed to make healthy choices easier through permanent changes to the environment, policy, and social networks. Twice recognized as one of the fastest-growing companies in the region by the Corridor Business Journal, the company has also been honored for the ninth year for their continued growth by the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC), a national nonprofit and the leading authority on U.S. inner city economies and the businesses that thrive there. Every year, ICIC identifies, ranks, and spotlights the 100 fastest-growing businesses located in America’s inner cities.
“Becoming B Corp certified is an important accomplishment for us,” said Chuck Hammond, Raining Rose CEO. “It is being recognized for socially and environmentally responsible practices that we have had in place for years. As a manufacturer of natural and organic goods and an active member of our local community, the values B Corps represent align with ours, and we look forward to putting, even more, focus on these values with our new certification.”
Raining Rose’s decision to pursue B Corp status speaks highly about their regard for their partners, employees, and the environment. Congratulations to Raining Rose on joining Badger and a growing community of more than 1700 businesses in 50 countries that seek a better way to do business while striving to have a positive impact on the world!

“My work involves all stages of package development, from conception to final approval and purchase of finished product. Being Badger, our focus skews heavily toward sustainability and ecological best practices – personal passions of mine that dovetail nicely with my work. My free time revolves around music – making my own (experimental electronic and solo electric guitar mostly), and I like to write and do yoga. I live with my wife and my lovely cat in a town near Badger HQ. My favorite Badger product is After Sun Balm.”
