Tips for Glowing Skin in Winter

We Badgers know a little bit about winter.
We Badgers know a thing or two about winter.

Spoiler alert: glowing skin starts from the inside out. As much as I’d love to recommend products for glowing skin in winter and say “this is all you need!” I simply can’t. Badger stuff is pretty awesome, but it isn’t likely to impart glowing skin all on its own. Glowing skin comes from good health, which is a holistic process that includes awesome Badger stuff – and some other factors, too.

So I’m going to operate under the assumption that you are likely a pretty healthy human being. (I think this is a fair assumption, given that Badger fans care enough about themselves to use USDA certified organic body care.) However, if you aren’t taking good care of yourself at the moment (that’s ok! We all have ups and downs), or stumbled upon this article hoping for a secret hack for glowing skin (ok, there’s one secret hack at the end), you might not get the results you were hoping for. If so, bookmark this page and take a few weeks to drink lots of water, get some good rest, shake off that holiday stress, and meet me back here when you’re ready. Don’t worry, I’ll wait for you.

This is me waiting.
This is me waiting.

Now that we’re all on the same page, let’s look at the ways that we can assist our bodies for undeniably healthy, glowing skin this winter and for the rest of our lives! Here are my top picks for Badgers best products for soft, healthy, glowing skin.

1. Damascus Rose Face Oil

For Glowing Skin in Winter - Badger Damascus Rose Face Oil
This is my “can’t-live-without” Badger oil, and there’s something so deeply satisfying about using it. I think for me it’s the fact that I feel like royalty every single time I apply it. The light floral scent is uplifting, and if you use it while your skin is still slightly damp, it absorbs quickly and fully. And the magic of this oil is that the opposite is also true: apply a drop of oil to your face, and then mist with water. You’ll see that the oil holds the moisture close to the skin. Who says oil and water don’t get along?! (Science says that, but we’re talking magic!)

The jojoba and baobab oil combination is what really boosts your complexion. Naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids nourish and plump the skin while rosehip, seabuckthorn, and calendula provide a mighty antioxidant boost. It works best with Damascus Rose Cleansing Oil – but that’s a whole other blog post!

How it gives you glowing skin: you feel like royalty. This makes you walk taller and radiate with mystical powers of the ages. (Plus, since you use about one-quarter the amount you would generally use for a lotion, you’ll also feel lighter, cleverer, and thriftier because it will last a long time.)

2. Vanilla Coconut Every Day Body Moisturizer

For Glowing Skin - Badger Vanilla Coconut Body Moisturizer We all know how good coconut oil is for the skin, and Badger’s coconut oil is pressed from just-cracked, Samoan coconuts. Talofa! This stuff is the real deal and your skin will eat it up.

In case you didn’t know, coconut oil softens skin almost instantly and beeswax helps to lock in moisture so it doesn’t evaporate from your skin as quickly. The combination of the two protects your skin for a day out in the elements.

How it gives you glowing skin: You smell like a cookie and feel just as sweet. The goodness radiates from within. You are a beacon of good tidings and reminiscent of macaroons. People love you.

3. Herbal Lip Care – Cocoa Butter Lip Balm

For Healthy Lips in Winter - Badger Cocoa Butter Herbal Lip Care No post on winter skin care would be complete without at least one lip balm because lips are skin too! This lip balm is the bomb: velvety smooth with a light peppermint tingle.

Cocoa butter protects lips in the winter cold, especially when the air inside is hot and dry. But what puts this cocoa butter lip balm ahead of the others is the inclusion of tamanu oil – a sublimely soothing oil rich in fatty acids. The addition of tea tree and lemon balm provide extra herbal support when the arctic winds kick up.

How it gives you glowing skin: ok, here’s your one secret hack for glowing skin:

Smile.

When you smile you glow, and you know it. So do the world a favor and share that beautiful smile with the rest of us!

In keeping with the general theme of taking care of yourself as one of the underlying principles of glowing skin, I have to add the fact that regular yoga practice is one of the most effective ways to achieve a youthful glowing complexion at any age! Doing yoga on a regular basis helps your body release and flush out toxins and impurities, reduces stress, and improves sleep, all of which improve not only your skin but the health of your whole body! Of course, when you are done, the next thing to do is to smooth on some Damascus Rose Face Balm (my absolute favorite) or Damascus Rose face oil ( I need to try that!:) I also want to compliment the lovely moss garden sitting on the coffee table in the Badger family video! I am inspired to make one of my own if I can find some moss this time of year! Wishing all the Badgers a healthy and joyous New year!

  • It’s an old bit of wisdom that always bears repeating: cutting back on isolated sugar sources (especially corn syrup, table sugar, and refined flour) is essential; many of them are sneakily inserted into our diets unbeknownst to us – in everything from cereal to condiments. They are inflammatory and the bane of your skin (i.e. breakouts and accelerated aging), not to mention the rest of your body. Nature is full of healthful sweetness. Try coconut shavings, bananas, and almond butter; try USDA organic stevia in blends of cucumber and frozen berries and naturally-flavored seltzer (it tastes like a slushy but better) and in herbal tea (use it in peppermint leaf tea and it tastes like a candy cane); opt for something from a plant (as opposed to a Plant) like honey or agave or organic raw cane sugar, and use in moderation. Roast your veggies to bring out their hidden caramel flavor; bake your fruit to enhance their innate sugary goodness. Give your tastebuds time to reboot, and your skin time to revitalize. Instead of rewarding your efforts with a pint of ice cream (we’ve all done this, and the pleasure is gone way too fast though the pounds – and the spots – remain), treat yourself to some luxurious organic antioxidant oil and remember that health ultimately rewards itself. Wishing you all the best sort of sweetness! (P.S. If you’re looking for an immediate pick-me-up sans stimulants, I recommend the Cheerful Mind Balm which smells divine.)
